This week we bought a new car. Well, it is new to us! It is an old Chevrolet (green van)... can you tell that I don't know much about cars?! It cost us $1.00. YES!! It was not a typo. We really paid $1.00. This, is a gift from God, absolutely! We will use the van when necessary but our main car is still the Ford Focus. In May, when DH and I go our seperate ways for fieldwork, we will need two vehicles. Our insurance (for the balance of the year) cost under $20 and we had to pay for the transfer and registration and plates. Even though it is a gas guzzeler, I am so happy to have this vehicle. For a (frugalite) like myself, I find it was a very good purchase.
Oh! and there is a possible program we can participate in near the end of the car's life - to retire it properly. It is called the "Retire Your Ride" program. You turn in your car (1995 model year or older, registered properly and insured for the last 6 months, at least, and which is still in running condition) and get rewards (each province offers own rewards). In Québec, the only ones that apply to us at this time are the $300 cheque or up to $3000 off on certain new models at certain auto manufacturers. Hmm. It is something to keep in mind...
$1.00 is a great deal :) That is awesome that God provided a 2nd vehicle when it will be needed. I accidentally deleted my blog so if you try and find it, you won't...
