Photos and Culling

There are too many things in my house! I used to be a clutter-bug but have gotten it under control. As a child, I used to have huge "rock collections" under my bed (not to mention dust-bunny collections!) I also had magazine, music, nic-nac, frog, elephant and teapot collections... When I was fifteen years old, I felt all these things were weighing me down. So I started my journey towards simplicity. I have made a lot of progress but have not gotten to the place I would like to be. I have been picking through so many books on the topic. Today in a book called: The One-minute Organizer: Plain and Simple by Donna Smallin (which I am actually reading in French), the author presented a really interesting idea. Take a picture of the item that has sentimental value but that doesn't serve another purpose. Then, get rid of the item. Hmm!! I think that this is an awesome idea! The special thing that has been collecting dust in the closet will one day rot or break or be stolen... but I can still "have it" by turning it into a photograph. I think that it would be easier to "re-visit" the item in a photo album than to drag it out from under a huge pile of stuff... So, this weekend, we will be camera happy!!

  1. What a great idea! I may have to do that with some of my stuff.
